This is the first release in a series of releases I call 64 bar loop series. The concept is that all tracks are 64 bar hand played loops. Or almost 100% hand played since there is usually some very simple programmed element in my productions that I build everything around. In this case it's the kick drum. Everything else is hand played 64 bar loops.
So what's up with the 64 bars? Well. Most of my released tunes are hand played for the full length of the tune. They all started as loops which I gradually made longer and longer and at some point added full melody line and solo. So that the finished production is a full length tune telling a story from start to finish, so to speak.
But I also have another category of tunes that are more loops based. This is nice because it gives more freedom in the mixing process. I can build up the tunes in my improvised dub mixing without thinking about how everything will fit with the length of the recorded tune because everything is looping. These tunes often end up at 64 bars. I typically start with 8 bar loops when I develop ideas and then double up. (My full length tunes are almost always 128 bars.) 64 bars is not really enough to tell a full story. But it is enough the get the live feel of hand played instrumentals. Also if you make a solo with some significant frasing you will recognise the frase at the tunes loops, so all the lead instrument parts need some other kind of more loop like character. The end result is that those kind of tunes makes me do dub mixes that are more meditative and exploring. So that is why I decided that it would make sense to do a series of releases with these tunes.
